Social media impersonation protection

Fake accounts using your brand, taken down.

Scammers set up fake support accounts, copycat pages and bogus promotions to talk to your customers in real time, harvest their details and redirect their payments. Unphish finds them across every major platform and gets them removed, with the evidence to prove it.

How the scam works

The fake support reply.

A customer complains about a late refund in public. Within minutes, an account that looks like your support team replies, offers to help and moves the chat to private messages. From there it asks for logins, card details or a “verification” payment.

  • The customer contacted you first, so the reply feels expected
  • The name, logo and tone are copied from your real account
  • The scam happens in private messages you can't see
  • New accounts appear as fast as old ones are removed

FAQ

Social media protection questions, answered.

What is social media impersonation protection?

It means finding fake accounts, pages, groups and posts that impersonate your organization or your people on social platforms, then getting them removed before they reach your customers.

Which platforms do you cover?

Major and emerging platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, Telegram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and WhatsApp. We cover pages, profiles, groups, posts and paid social ads.

How do you get fake accounts removed?

We report each fake account through the platform's impersonation, fraud or scam reporting process, with evidence-backed submissions. If action is slow or refused, we escalate through alternative contacts and trust and safety channels. In the first half of 2026, 99% of the fake accounts we pursued on Facebook, X and Instagram were taken down, and 75% of those on X were taken down within a day.

What is a fake customer support account?

It's an account made to look like your help team. It watches for customers complaining in public, replies offering help, then moves the chat to private messages to ask for logins, card details or payments. Nearly 1 in 3 of the social media cases we handled were fake support accounts.

Can you protect our executives and VIPs too?

Yes. We find and remove fake profiles of your executives, staff and other high-profile people, including fake recruiters using your company's name to run job scams.

Can we report fake accounts our customers find?

Yes. Your team can send us any suspicious account or post at any time, and it goes through the same evidence, validation and takedown process.

Does Unphish help with the FTC Impersonation Rule?

Yes. The FTC Impersonation Rule has been in force since April 2024, with civil penalties up to $53,088 per violation. Unphish helps US organizations detect, disrupt and document impersonation scams, with a complete audit trail of every detection and takedown.

Spot the fake

Can you spot the fake accounts?

A customer complains about a late refund on X. Five accounts reply. Not every reply that looks suspicious is fake, and not every fake is obvious.

  1. Spot
  2. Reveal
  3. Take down

Real or fake?

Results

Real
  • @SolsticePayVerified since 2016, and warns people not to share details.
  • @SolsticePayHelpNo tick, but years of history and it keeps the chat public.
Fake
  • @SolsticePay_HelpMade this year, an extra underscore, and it wants your login and card in a DM.
  • @SolsticePayRewardsTicks can be bought. Real brands don't pay compensation through a link.
  • @janelee_ceoBrand new, and CEOs don't message customers about refunds.

Each fake breaks a different rule, so each one is reported a different way.

Fake support accountImpersonation

Fake claim linkAccount + phishing site

The account is taken down, and so is the site it sends people to.

Fake CEO profileExecutive impersonation

Reported as a fake profile of a real person, with proof of who they are.
