Lookalike domain detection

Lookalike domains, caught early.

Unphish watches new domain registrations, certificates and DNS changes for names that imitate yours. Malicious domains get taken down, and suspicious ones are watched until they make a move.

How it works

Caught at registration, followed until removal.

Most domains used in phishing are registered by criminals on purpose, so the best time to spot one is the moment it appears. We watch for that moment and follow each domain until it's dealt with.

01

Detect

We watch every new registration.

New domains, certificates and DNS changes are checked against your brand, product and executive names as they appear.

02

Investigate

Is it live? Is it dangerous?

AI-assisted analysis scores each domain on what it's doing: hosting a site, collecting logins or sitting parked. An analyst confirms before anything is enforced.

Disrupt

Taken down at the source.

Reviewed domains go to enforcement in one click, to the registrar or host with evidence attached, and we escalate up to the registry if they don't act.

The life of a lookalike

We're watching before it ever goes live.

FAQ

Lookalike domain detection questions, answered.

What is lookalike domain detection?

Lookalike domain detection means finding the domains registered to imitate your name, working out which ones are dangerous and getting the malicious ones taken down. Unphish watches new registrations as they appear and keeps an eye on suspicious domains until they're dealt with.

What's the difference between a lookalike domain and typosquatting?

Typosquatting is one kind of lookalike domain, a misspelling such as so1sticepay.com. Lookalikes also include homoglyphs (letters from other alphabets that look the same), your name on a different extension, and your name combined with words like login, support or rewards.

Can you take down a domain that isn't being used yet?

Registrars usually need evidence of abuse before they act, so a parked domain often can't be removed straight away. We put it on a watchlist and act as soon as it starts hosting content or collecting logins.

Which domain extensions do you cover?

We monitor across classic extensions like .com, newer ones like .top and .shop, and country codes like .com.au and .co.uk. In the first half of 2026, 77% of the malicious websites we took action on weren't on .com.

Will you flag our own domains?

No. Your official domains, agencies and partners go on a whitelist, so they're never treated as threats.

How long does a domain takedown take?

It depends on the registrar, the host and the country. We send evidence-backed requests to the right provider, escalate to the registry if needed, and track every case until the domain is confirmed down.

Do you find related domains?

Yes. Domains registered by the same people often share registrars, name servers, hosting or phishing kits. We link them into campaigns so you can deal with the whole group at once.

Spot the fake

Can you spot the fake domains?

Not every suspicious-looking domain is fake, and not every fake domain is obvious. Which of these Solstice Pay domains would you trust?

  1. Spot
  2. Reveal
  3. Take down

Real or fake?

  1. solsticepay.com
  2. solstlcepay.com
  3. help.solsticepay.com
  4. solsticepay-login.com
  5. sоlsticepay.com
  6. solsticepay.com.au
  7. solsticepay.support

Tag all seven, then check your answers.

  • solsticepay.com.auThe real Australian site. Country-code versions are often genuine.
Fake
  • solstlcepay.comAn l where the i should be. Easy to miss at a glance.
  • solsticepay-login.comAdding words like login, secure or verify is a classic lookalike.
  • sоlsticepay.comThat first o is Cyrillic, not Latin. It looks identical, which is the point.
  • solsticepay.supportA newer extension anyone can register. Parked today, phishing tomorrow.

Handle them

Not every lookalike needs the same response. What it's doing decides what happens next.

Live phishing siteHost + registrar takedown

solsticepay-login.com is collecting logins, so the page and the domain are both taken down.

Typo and homoglyphRegistrar suspension

Domains built to be mistaken for yours are suspended at the source.

Parked lookalikeWatchlist

solsticepay.support is watched, and acted on the moment it starts hosting content.

Your real domainsWhitelist

Your own sites, subdomains and country versions are marked safe, so they're never flagged.

Don't trust the name alone. Check the full address, and type important sites in yourself instead of following links.
