Ad fraud protection

Scam ads, found and taken down.

Scammers pay for search and social ads that use your name, offers and people to send customers to fake logins, fake support lines and scams. Unphish finds the ads, follows the click, and takes down both the ad and where it leads.

How it works

Found wherever scam ads run.

Customers trust sponsored results and promoted posts, which is exactly why scammers buy them. We monitor search ads, social ad libraries, video platforms and search results, prove what's behind each ad and get it removed.

01

Detect

We watch where ads run.

Search ads, social ad libraries, video platforms and search results are checked for ads and listings using your name, logo, offers or people, in multiple languages.

Google AdsMeta AdsTikTokYouTubeSearch results
02

Investigate

We follow the click.

The ad, the advertiser and every page it redirects to are captured as evidence, including pages hidden from reviewers. AI-assisted analysis scores the risk and an analyst validates it.

03

Disrupt

The ad and where it leads.

Reviewed threats go to enforcement in one click. The ad is reported to the ad platform, and the landing page to its host and registrar. If action is slow or refused, we escalate.

An ad is only the way in. Taking down the page or account it leads to stops the scam, even if a new ad goes up. Every ad-driven case we pursued in the first half of 2026 was taken down.

Source: Unphish cases opened January to June 2026, including fake support numbers in search results, fake rewards offers, fake promotions, phishing sites, scam websites and social media impersonation. Takedown rates exclude cases closed for other reasons, such as at the client's request.

Case study · Airline group

100%

of the fake customer service listings we pursued were taken down.

Scammers planted fake help lines where travellers search for the airline's contact number, sending callers to a fake call centre that asks for booking and payment details.

What we found

  • Hidden on trusted websitesFiles uploaded to event, conference and public feedback sites so they would rank in search
  • Written to match real questionsTitles like baggage rules, name changes and “24-hour live agent” to catch people looking for help
  • Linked by the numbers they sharedEach listing reported to the site owner or host with evidence, and grouped by the fake numbers they shared

Client name withheld to protect confidentiality. January to June 2026.

How the scam works

One ad, two different pages.

Scam ads often use cloaking. When the ad platform checks the link, it sees a harmless page. When a customer clicks from their phone, they're sent to the scam. That's how fake ads get approved and keep running.

  • Reviewers and bots are shown a safe page
  • Real customers are redirected to the scam
  • The ad copy and branding are copied from yours
  • When one ad is removed, the same page is used in a new one

FAQ

Ad fraud questions, answered.

What is ad fraud in digital risk protection?

It's when scammers pay for ads that impersonate your organization, products, offers or people to send customers to phishing pages, fake shops, investment scams or fake support lines. It covers scam ads using your name. Invalid clicks on your own ad campaigns are a separate issue.

Which ad platforms do you monitor?

Google Ads and Meta Ads, along with TikTok, YouTube and other platforms with public ad libraries. We also watch search results, where scammers plant fake pages, files and phone numbers to rank for your name.

How do you get scam ads removed?

We report the ad to the ad platform with evidence of the impersonation, and take down the page it leads to through the host and registrar. If action is slow, we escalate. Every ad-driven case we pursued in the first half of 2026 was taken down.

What is ad cloaking?

Cloaking shows ad reviewers a harmless page and real customers the scam, which is how fake ads get approved. We follow each ad the way a customer would, so the scam page and every redirect are captured as evidence.

Can you remove fake customer service numbers from search results?

Yes. We find fake help lines planted in ads, videos, files and web pages, and get them removed from the sites hosting them. In the first half of 2026, every fake support number listing we pursued was taken down.

Can our customers or staff report a scam ad?

Yes. Anyone on your team can send us a link or screenshot of a suspicious ad at any time, and it goes through the same evidence, validation and takedown process.

Does Unphish help with the FTC Impersonation Rule?

Yes. The FTC Impersonation Rule has been in force since April 2024, with civil penalties up to $53,088 per violation. Unphish helps US organizations detect, disrupt and document impersonation scams, with a complete audit trail of every detection and takedown.
